Challenge:
Aon’s 70,000 worldwide employees were deluged by over 1 million
spam email messages per day. Over half of these spam messages were penetrating
Aon’s existing email defenses and hitting employees inboxes. These
messages were tying up staff time, clogging Aon’s network and exposing
the company to potential legal claims for a hostile work environment.
Aon’s executives felt it was critical to control this unwanted traffic
as quickly as possible.
Solution:
Employing one of its adaptive security solutions, Network Effects’
professional consultants quickly configured new spam filters to block
the unwanted and intrusive emails.. In addition, the consultants recommended
new network policies and configuration changes to reduce both inbound
and outbound illicit traffic. Network Effects also helped Aon deploy these
changes.
Results:
The new spam controls immediately began filtering out about 75% of incoming
spam messages each day, reducing the load on Aon's network and increasing
the productivity of its staff members. Moreover, the policy changes recommended
by Network Effects helped Aon improve its overall network security to
help prevent future attacks.
